Wireshark 4.4.9 Launches with Essential Bug Fixes and Enhanced Protocol Support
The Wireshark team has released version 4.4.9, a maintenance update for the world’s leading network protocol analyser. This version prioritises stability and reliability, featuring crucial bug fixes and enhanced support for several existing protocols. Available for all supported platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux, Wireshark serves as an essential tool for network administrators, security professionals, and developers, enabling in-depth analysis of network traffic. The non-profit Wireshark Foundation, which relies on community contributions and sponsorships, continues to promote protocol analysis education. This latest release addresses multiple vulnerabilities and operational bugs, including a significant fix for a crash in the SSH dissector (wnpa-sec-2025-03), which is vital for those analysing secure shell traffic.
While version 4.4.9 does not introduce new protocol support, it enhances existing ones, offering improved functionality for BACapp, LIN, MySQL, RDM, SABP, SCCP, sFlow, and SSH. These updates ensure that Wireshark can accurately parse and display data according to the latest standards and vendor-specific implementations. The update does not include new or updated capture file support or changes to file format decoding. The development team has focused on refining the existing feature set to maintain stability and security for its extensive user base. Network professionals are encouraged to upgrade to version 4.4.9 to take advantage of the recent fixes and protocol enhancements, ensuring a more secure and efficient network analysis experience. Additionally, the Wireshark Foundation has launched the Wireshark Certified Analyst (WCA-101) certification, marking a significant advancement in professional network analysis education.
