NSW Man Arrested for Allegedly Using Cryptocurrency to Buy Child Exploitation Material
Detectives from the New South Wales Police Force’s State Crime Command Cybercrime Squad have arrested a 21-year-old man from Grafton for allegedly using cryptocurrency to purchase child abuse material online. This arrest is part of Strike Force Angle, an ongoing investigation targeting individuals who utilise cryptocurrency for the purchase or distribution of such illicit material. On the morning of 4 September, detectives executed a search warrant at the man’s residence, where they discovered two laptops, a mobile phone, and various prohibited drugs, including LSD, ketamine, and MDMA.
A forensic examination of the seized devices revealed images and videos of child abuse material. The man was taken into custody at the scene and subsequently charged with multiple offences, including two counts of possession of child abuse material, possession and supply of prohibited drugs, and hindering or resisting a police officer in the execution of duty. He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in court on 5 September. Authorities encourage anyone with information related to the distribution of child abuse material to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or visit their website.
