Microsoft Unveils August 2025 Cumulative Updates for Windows 11 (KB5063878, KB5063875) Introducing Exciting New Features
Microsoft has released the Windows 11 August 2025 Cumulative Updates, KB5063878 for version 24H2 and KB5063875 for versions 22H2 and 23H2. These updates deliver critical stability fixes and new features as part of Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday for August 2025. They address performance issues reported since May 2025, including frame rate drops in games like Fortnite and device unresponsiveness, which were caused by a bug in prior patches that has now been resolved. Installation options are available through Windows Update for automatic installation, and both updates can also be downloaded manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog for users experiencing issues. The large file sizes reflect embedded AI models, even for non-NPU systems, with KB5063878 (24H2) download sizes being ARM64: 3509.1 MB and x64: 3054.9 MB, while KB5063875 (22H2/23H2) download sizes are ARM64: 1030.5 MB and x64: 896.7 MB.
The KB5063878 update introduces several new features for Windows 11 24H2, Build 26100.4946. The Settings app now includes a top-centred search bar that acts as an AI assistant on Copilot+ PCs with 40+ TOPs, suggesting relevant settings such as battery options for power-saving queries. Enhanced controller navigation in the touch keyboard’s Gamepad layout supports handheld gaming, while the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) has been replaced with a minimalist Black Screen of Death, aligning with Windows 11’s modern design. Additionally, a Quick Machine Recovery feature allows data-preserving recovery from corrupted Windows installations, even in BSOD loops, via the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). Other enhancements include Microsoft Teams integration, improved window snapping, and various fixes addressing issues in the Windows Firewall, Local Security Authority Subsystem Service, and File Explorer.
