Microsoft Seeks Customer Feedback on Reported SSD Failures

Microsoft is currently investigating reports from customers experiencing data corruption and failure issues with their Solid-State Drives (SSDs) and Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) following the installation of the August 2025 security update, KB5063878. The company acknowledged these concerns in a statement to BleepingComputer, noting that they have not been able to replicate the issue on updated Windows 11 24H2 systems. Microsoft is actively seeking additional information from affected users to better understand the problem. They have indicated that internal testing and telemetry have not shown an increase in disk failures or file corruption. Users experiencing these issues are encouraged to contact Support for Business or utilise the Feedback Hub to report their experiences.

The issue was initially reported by a Japanese PC builder who observed SSDs disappearing from the operating system during heavy write operations on drives that were over 60% full. Other users have reported similar problems with various SSD models, including Corsair Force MP600 and SanDisk Extreme Pro, among others. Phison, a NAND controller manufacturer, has also acknowledged the situation and is collaborating with Microsoft to address the issue. Until a resolution is found, Windows users are advised to avoid writing large files or extracting extensive compressed files all at once to mitigate potential data loss.
