Microsoft is actively addressing ongoing issues with Outlook email functionality.
Microsoft is currently addressing an Exchange Online issue that is affecting email access for Outlook mobile users who utilise Hybrid Modern Authentication (HMA). HMA is a feature of Microsoft Exchange Server that enables users to access on-premises mailboxes through cloud-based authorisation tokens. This known issue, tracked under EX1137017 in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, arose from a recent service change aimed at enhancing mailbox sync efficiency. Since August 17, affected users have experienced 12-hour sync delays, leading to mailbox crashes and hindering access to emails and calendars. Microsoft has acknowledged that some users may be unable to send or receive emails via the Outlook mobile app. A recent build update inadvertently caused a condition where sync jobs for outbound and inbound mail were placed in a quarantine state, resulting in these significant delays.
In response, Microsoft engineers have deployed a fix to prevent syncs from entering the quarantine state, following an unsuccessful attempt to adjust the delay interval to one hour. While the company has not disclosed the specific regions or number of customers impacted by this incident, it has been classified as one with noticeable user effects. Additionally, Microsoft is investigating another issue affecting Microsoft Teams users, which causes blank screens and freezes during meetings on the desktop app, particularly for those using Intel driver version 32.0.101.69xx. Affected users are advised to use the Microsoft Teams web app as a temporary workaround. Earlier this year, Microsoft also resolved a DNS misconfiguration that led to one-time passcode delivery failures in Exchange Online and addressed a crash issue in the classic Outlook email client.
