Firex transforms fire safety by offering 24/7 self-service warehouses for enhanced security and convenience.
An Australian company, FIREX, is revolutionising the distribution and management of fire protection equipment across the nation. The urgency for effective fire safety solutions is escalating, particularly in New South Wales, where Fire and Rescue NSW responds to over 130,000 incidents annually, including nearly 20,000 fires or explosions. The residential sector faces significant risks, with approximately 4,500 house fires reported each year, predominantly originating in kitchens and linked to electrical faults. Tragically, more than 50 Australians lose their lives to residential fires annually, many of which could be prevented with functional smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Alarmingly, nearly half of the homes affected by fire in NSW during winter 2023 lacked working smoke alarms, highlighting the critical need for accessible and compliant safety equipment. Additionally, the rise of new hazards, such as lithium-ion battery fires, which accounted for 456 incidents in the 2022–23 period, underscores the necessity for rapid access to appropriate fire protection tools.
In response to these pressing challenges, FIREX has implemented a groundbreaking approach to equipment distribution. Since 2018, the company has operated 24/7 self-service warehouses, providing technicians with immediate access to a wide range of fire protection products. Currently, FIREX maintains 20 warehouses across Australia, with 16 operating around the clock, creating a resilient and adaptable logistics system. Owner Ali McGovern emphasises that the company was founded on innovative practices aimed at reinventing distribution in the fire safety industry. Technicians receive a one-time entry code that activates roller doors, lighting, and cameras, facilitating contactless equipment collection. This streamlined process reduces travel and wait times, allowing technicians to dedicate more time to community service and fire prevention. Furthermore, FIREX’s model promotes sustainability by eliminating the need for businesses to store large volumes of equipment, enhancing cash flow and reducing overheads. The warehouses feature Swap and Go recycling cages, resulting in up to 90% of materials being reused, thereby embedding circular economy practices into daily operations while minimising industry waste.
