Allianz Life Insurance Cyber Attack Impacts Majority of U.S. Customers

Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America reported a cyber attack that occurred on July 16, 2025, resulting in the exfiltration of personal data. A spokesperson for Allianz Life stated that a malicious threat actor gained access to a third-party, cloud-based Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system used by the company. The breach allowed the attacker to obtain personally identifiable information related to the majority of Allianz Life’s customers, financial professionals, and select employees through a social engineering technique.

In response to the incident, Allianz Life took immediate action to contain the breach and contacted the FBI for assistance. The company confirmed that there was no evidence of access to its internal network or other systems, including the policy administration system. Although the exact number of affected individuals was not disclosed in the filing with the Maine Attorney General, the spokesperson indicated that a majority of the 1.4 million US customers were impacted. Allianz Life has not yet attributed the attack to any specific hacking group or confirmed if they had been contacted by ransomware actors. The company, which serves 125 million customers globally, plans to notify affected customers starting August 1.
