Jaguar Land Rover Cyber Attack May Disrupt Operations Until October

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) disclosed a cyber attack last week, prompting the company to shut down some of its systems in response. In a recent statement on its corporate website, JLR confirmed that it had been impacted by a cyber incident and took immediate action to mitigate its effects by proactively shutting down its systems. The company is now working diligently to restart its global applications in a controlled manner. At this stage, there is no evidence that any customer data has been stolen; however, JLR’s retail and production activities have faced significant disruption.

Staff at JLR’s manufacturing plants in Solihull, Wolverhampton, and Halewood on Merseyside have been instructed to stay home until Tuesday, with their hours off being banked for later use while their pay remains unaffected. The company has promised to provide updates to its employees on Monday. Additionally, suppliers such as SurTec, OPmobility, WHS Plastics, and Evtec have also advised their staff to remain at home. Reports from The Sunday Times suggest that the outage could extend for “most of September” or potentially longer. The cyber attack has been claimed by the Scattered Spider hacking collective, which has reportedly been blackmailing the manufacturer for money while taunting them on Telegram.
