OpenAI introduces a more engaging and friendly personality for the non-thinking model of GPT-5, enhancing user interaction and experience.
OpenAI has confirmed the rollout of a new warmer personality for GPT-5, which is now available for users on web and mobile applications. This update, announced on August 15, aims to enhance user interaction with small, genuine phrases such as “Good question” and “Great start,” while ensuring that it does not veer into flattery. Internal tests have indicated that there is no increase in sycophancy compared to the previous GPT-5 personality. However, users who prefer the warmer tone of GPT-4o can still access it as a legacy model.
For those dissatisfied with the new GPT-5 personality, OpenAI has provided a straightforward method to revert to GPT-4o, applicable only to Plus and Pro account holders. Users can navigate to chatgpt.com, click on their profile name at the bottom left, access Settings, and toggle the option to show legacy models. Additionally, OpenAI has reinstated other models, including o3 and 4o-mini, to cater to various user preferences.
